How do we start? What's the first step?
The first step is for us to carry out an evaluation of your Centura application.
If you navigate to our downloads page, you should download a copy of the Sibants
Statistic Generator that matches the version of Centura that you are currently
using.
How does the Sibants Statistic Generator work?
The Sibants Statistic Generator (SSG) is a Windows EXE file, written in Centura.
You need to place all APP (application files), APL (application libraries),
QRP (report templates) and INI files in one directory. In that same directory
place the SSG and then run it from that location. This will produce a statistical
file called report.txt.
The SSG crashed when it was processing my application. What can I do?
Centura Team Developer sources are saved in a special format. In order to
parse the code that your application contains, the SSG uses the Centura CDK
library that comes with SQLWindows/CTD. Unfortunately this library is not
robust and crashes from time to time.
Recommendations: First, try to convert all your application files into a
text format APT ("Save as" menu item) and try to gain statistics again. If
you are still unable to get a statistics using our tool, contact us. We'll
try to make an estimation for your application based on general statistics.
Such an estimation will be less precise, of course. We can also sign a Non
Disclosure Agreement (NDA) and get your application from you to examine your
code.
What is contained in the report.txt file, generated by the
SSG?
We guarantee that there will be no business logic or confidential information
in the report file at all. We will be counting the size of code, the number
of times you call each Centura function and some other minor statistics for
your application. We do ask all our clients to review the file themselves and,
to date, none of them have objected to send it.
What do you do with the report.txt file, generated by the
SSG?
We have an internal program that will help us determine the cost of completely
converting your application to your chosen platform.
Can you do a proof of concept?
Some of our clients ask for a proof of concept. Our advice to all of our customers
is to do a proof of concept or prototype. We ask you to either use a small Centura
application or to create one which uses some of the most important features
of your application. You'll be able to see, how translated application will
look and act in the target language.
When you have the small application, we ask you to place it in another directory,
with its associated library files and report templates and run the CSE on that
application. We can then plan for that work and provide you with a quote for
this conversion. We usually only charge for our expenses for this work.
I am an IT company with many Centura customers, can we sign
a partnership agreement?
Yes. If you think, that your staff is experienced in the target language, we
can divide the translation work, leaving you unconvertable code. It can be a
difficult task without expert knowledge of the field, so we can also train your
staff to do it.
If you are an IT company, and you would like to explore the possibility of
being our partner, please Contact us giving us some information about your company
and intentions.
How long does it take to convert the application?
It depends on your application size and its complexity. Typical middle size
applications can be translated in 4-8 weeks.
